Al Labrada
Al Labrada is a former high-ranking official in the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) with a career spanning over three decades. He joined the LAPD as a probationary officer in 1993 after serving six years in the US Marine Corps Reserves.1 Labrada rose through the ranks to become one of the highest-ranking Latinos in the department's history, eventually reaching the position of Assistant Chief.15

In July 2024, a disciplinary board found Labrada guilty of seven charges, including lying to internal investigators and interfering with a witness in a departmental inquiry.4 Labrada retired from the LAPD effective July 1, 2024, before the board could deliberate on his potential dismissal.4
Throughout the investigation and aftermath, Labrada has consistently denied the allegations and claimed unfair treatment by the department leadership, particularly former Chief Michel Moore.235 He has filed legal claims against the LAPD, alleging violations of due process and politically motivated actions against him.5
