Aaike De Wever

Aaike De Wever is an IT project coordinator at INBO (Research Institute for Nature and Forest). Previously, he served as a science officer and scientific data manager at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, overseeing freshwater biodiversity data projects. With a Ph.D. in Biology from Universiteit Gent, his expertise lies in aquatic microbial ecology in freshwater environments. His research includes studying the microbial food web in Lake Tanganyika and exploring Antarctic lakes' microbial ecology. Aaike has experience in molecular ecology, data management, and teledetection of benthic micro-algae on intertidal mudflats.
At the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, Aaike was involved in developing the Freshwater Information Platform (BioFresh) data portal. He led the coordination of data workflow and the creation of the public data portal. His role extended to projects like the Freshwater Information Platform, AquaRES, EU BON, AMAZONFISH, and the SAFRED initiative in Belgium, focusing on freshwater data recovery and biodiversity research data.
Aaike De Wever also contributes to IT project coordination at INBO, managing data work packages for EU BON and AMAZONFISH projects.
