Vinod Cherian Joseph is a seasoned Senior Director and Head of the Open Innovations Group at Samsung Research America. With extensive experience in Mobile and Consumer product development, he has a proven track record of successful commercial partnerships, new product innovation, and driving ideas through partnerships, collaboration, strategic business development, and startup incubation.

Vinod holds a B.Tech. in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from Bangalore Institute of Technology, a Master’s in Wireless Communications from the University of Wollongong, and has studied a Ph.D. in Management of Technology at Sungkyunkwan University. He is also an alumnus of the prestigious National Public School and Christ University, Bangalore.

Vinod has extensive leadership experience across geographies, driving strategic initiatives that identify consumer pain-points, market insights, and business requirements. He has authored over 20 IEEE Journal and Conference papers and holds eight US Patents. He was active in the 3GPP and IETF Standards bodies and led the Industry’s first LTE chipset development and release on Android Mobile/Tablet at Samsung.

In his current role, Vinod leads the Open Innovations Group at Samsung Research America, fostering an environment that supports long-term profitable growth, risk-taking, and generating new ideas. He has received several awards for his distinguished contributions in the fields of ‘Technology Management’ and ‘Mobile Communication,’ respectively.

Furthermore, Vinod has held senior positions at Samsung Electronics and Samsung India R&D, where he was Principal Engineer, Chief of Staff, and Chief Engineer. He has also been a Research Scientist at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute.

Vinod has studied Certificate Courses in Deep Learning at the University of San Francisco, demonstrating his passion for continued learning and technological advancement.
