I'm thrilled to announce that I will be heading back to the Forty Acres to begin a challenging adventure to serve as UT Austin's new Director of Corporate Relations for Energy and Technology. My role within the UT Central Development Office will be to engage energy and tech companies in major interdisciplinary initiatives, such as the Planet Texas 2050 grand challenge and other Bridging Barriers programs.

The Center for Austin’s Future, a Texas nonprofit corporation, was founded in 2017 to actively promote the next generation of future-focused municipal political leaders and to increase voter turnout in City of Austin elections.

The CAF, which is in the process of attaining its status as a 501 (c) (4) political advocacy organization, intends to change the game. Its mission is to recruit, train and promote moderate, common-sense city council candidates who focus on solutions that position Austin for future success and high quality of life. In addition, the Center will adopt state-of-the-art methods in voter turnout, relying on voter analytics, to expand the voting population, especially historically inactive voters.

The ATXelerator™

On October 4, the CAF launched the ATXelerator™, a talent accelerator whose purpose will be to attract future-focused political candidates who place responsible growth and planning for the future at the top of their agendas.

A competitive application process will yield a cohort of 20-25 potential city council candidates and city board/commission members. After being assigned a mentor (i.e. former mayor or council member), the class will undergo an intensive 8-10 week education process on running a campaign, fundraising, the city budget, energy & water utilities, public safety, parks and a variety of other relevant topics.

After the education sessions, participants will compete in mock elections, over a two-week period, to arrive at three final winners.

Working with other like-minded groups and citizens, the CAF intends to alter the political landscape to produce a better Austin for our children and grandchildren.

Board President

Exceeded $1 million annual fundraising goal with $1.3 million in corporate gifts.  Develop and manage a portfolio of C‐level relationships with 50+ corporate partners strategic to the research, academic, and fundraising mission of Texas State University.  Engage with faculty, researchers, administrators, and development staff across campus to collaboratively develop new industry engagement programs, and prioritize corporate funding opportunities.  Manage corporate partner visits to campus, MOU and proposal development, as well as major events.  Lead the production of Texas State’s annual Innovation Lab event at SXSW Interactive and Smart Cities Connect Conference. The 2nd annual Innovation Lab brought university student design teams and faculty to SXSW to showcase disruptive research and innovations in partnership with Texas State’s corporate partners.  Event attracted over 250 SXSW badge holders, tech industry executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and university VIP guests.

Serve as a founding steering committee member of NSTXL.  Organization formed to facilitate energy technology development and deployment in partnership with the Department of Defense.  Designated as a DOD/Army Energy OTA with contracting authority of $100 M over 3 years.

Developed and managed a portfolio of relationships with corporate partners strategic to the research mission of the Cockrell School of Engineering.  Engaged with faculty across campus to identify research areas where UT Austin is world class, and facilitated interdisciplinary collaboration.  Developed and implemented corporate approach strategies that articulated a corporate investment value proposition.  Supported the federal and state proposal process by securing corporate participation and providing administrative support.  Managed interdisciplinary research exchanges between faculty and corporate partners.  Produced Cockrell School events such as UTinSV and the UT Village Event at SXSW Interactive.

Serve as the Board Chair of CleanTX, a Central Texas clean energy industry trade organization.  CleanTX coordinates over 30 unique cleantech networking events, educational forums, and conferences throughout the year.  Led CleanTX’s strategic plan development, implementation, organizational restructuring, and rebranding processes.

Served as a founding board member and Treasurer of the Pecan Street, Inc. organization.  Pecan Street is the nation’s most advanced smart grid research consortium initiative focused on energy usage data collection, energy data analytics, and smart grid and water technology research trials.  Coordinated with Pecan Street board members representing the City of Austin, Austin Energy, Environmental Defense Fund, and UT Austin on executing the Pecan Street mission of designing and deploying a new energy delivery system and new utility business model in Austin, TX.

Grew Austin’s cleantech industry from 30 companies and 3,000 employees to over 250 companies and 20,000 employees in 7 years. Austin is now the nation’s fastest growing and most innovative cleantech economy.  Worked with Austin cleantech industry stakeholders in a collaborative effort to build Austin’s regional clean energy economy.  Traveled to promote Austin’s cleantech industry, presented at national conferences, built relationships with clean energy companies, and developed new prospect leads.  Utilized working relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials to advocate for clean energy policies and facilitate key meetings for prospective clean energy companies.  Coordinated local and state incentive package negotiations for clean energy prospects.  Performed site selection search and analysis, proposal writing, and site tours for clean energy prospects.

Conducted market research surveys and interviews with leading tech executives located within the Greater Austin metro region.  Information and data collected were used to evaluate Austin’s target industry sector growth trends, workforce, and track company relocations and expansions in Austin.

Worked as an economic development consultant for Austin‐based AngelouEconomics developing community assessment reports, target industry studies, site selection analyses, and strategic implementation strategies for regions, communities, and private sector clients.
