David John Preece is an accomplished urban and regional planner, artist, writer, and filmmaker. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Weber State University in 1974, and went on to obtain graduate degrees in Urban and Regional Planning from Western Kentucky University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Preece has over forty-three years of experience as a planner in the public and private sector, working in various cities across the United States. He received many awards for his leadership and contribution to planning, such as the American Planning Association's Outstanding Community and Regional Planner, National Association of Regional Councils' Walter Scheiber Leadership, and New Hampshire Planning Association's Jeffrey H. Taylor Lifetime Achievement.

After his retirement from the urban and regional planning world, Preece has dedicated his time and energy to pursue his passion for art, writing, and filmmaking. He is a playwright and artist at Molly Be Good Productions, and has written and produced many plays that have been staged in the United States and Great Britain. Some of his critically acclaimed plays include Charles Dickens' Ghost Stories, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and The House of the Seven Gables. Preece's plays have won several playwriting awards, and some of them have been published.

Preece is also an experienced filmmaker and has written, directed, and produced a short film called Lunch with Eddie, which has been screened at over thirty international film festivals and has won several awards, including Best Short Film and Best Director. He is currently working on the screen adaptation of Fred Epeley's book, Growing up in Ottie's World.
