Disaster Medicine, by Elsevier-Mosby, was first published in 2006 and is considered to be the leading and most comprehensive textbook in the field of Disaster Medicine, both domestically and internationally. Outstanding reviews:  “5 out of 5 stars”; “Outstanding” from the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, and “This is an outstanding addition to the field of Disaster Medicine……..it is destined to become the standard textbook. This book should be required reading for all physicians, whether in training or in practice for 20 years;” From the Journal of Emergency Medicine. The 2nd edition, now in production, has been re-titled: Ciottone’s Disaster Medicine and will be published in 2015.

--One of our Ultra-High Net-Worth (UHNW) clients requested a subterranean medical suite at his estate on the east coast of the United States, and I spearheaded these efforts by coordinating the medical, security, architectural, engineering, and construction teams and subcontractors to complete the multi-million-dollar effort on time and under budget. In addition to assembling and managing a strong team and negotiating favorable deals with vendors, I was able to diffuse conflict among those family members who resisted the project.

I served as a direct advisor to the Navy Surgeon General on homeland security matters. I also served as a homeland security consultant for the personal physician to the President of the United States and for the Attending Physician to the U.S. Congress. I played a key role in helping Navy Medicine prepare for the medical and public health consequences of natural and man-made disasters in hospitals and clinics around the world. I held this role during a crucial time, with unprecedented transformations occurring within the Department of Defense and Navy Medicine as a result of the war in Iraq.

I served as the biological terrorism medical consultant to the Senior White House Physician and the Attending Physician of the U.S. Congress. I also served as emergency physician, flight surgeon, and Director of the Aeromedical Isolation Team, which specialized in mitigating the medical consequences of biological weapons and bioterrorism. The USAMRIID is the U.S. Army’s main institution and facility for defensive research into medical countermeasures against biological warfare.

-- As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on biological warfare and medical management, I consulted with the Department of Defense, other federal agencies, and academia. I also delivered more than 50 lectures, keynote presentations, and national/international seminars and contributed to multiple publications.

In 1996, I became the first board-certified emergency medicine physician to serve the President of the United States as White House Physician. I served President Clinton, Vice President Gore, their families, and other presidential support units at the White House, Camp David, classified emergency relocation facilities, and aboard executive aircraft including Air Force One. I also provided primary care and protective medical support services in more than 40 countries with no Western-type backup medical care. I played a key role in developing Top Secret emergency contingency plans bearing constitutional impact, countering the greatest threats to the continuity of the presidency.
