The Writers Institute is an intensive, two-week long summer workshop. My goal as the instructor is to equip students during this limited time with new experiments they could bring to their writing.

Better Magazine (http://bettermagazine.org/) is an online magazine featuring poetry, fiction, non-fiction and special web-only features. As poetry editor, I work with Carolina Ebeid and Sean Bishop to solicit and select work from both established and emerging poets.

West Virginia State University is a fully integrated HBCU. As a member of the English Department's Creative Writing faculty I have a number of different jobs. I teach creative writing, general education and upper level literature courses in African American literature. I advise students. And I participate on various departmental committees.

Writers in the Schools is a Houston non-profit that coordinates visits by established writers into the public and private schools of Houston. The organization serves K-12. I was hired in 2006 as a Writer. In 2009, I was given the additional responsibility of being a Field Coordinator, where I observed other writers at their assignments and offered advice and guidance on their teaching.

Part of my stipend at University of Houston involved teaching general education and creative writing courses in the English Department. During my final year, I won an Outstanding Teaching Fellow Award.
