Zack Phillips

Zack Phillips is currently the Senior Manager of Computational Microscopy at insitro, where he has been instrumental in building and leading a specialized team focused on generating high-quality microscopy datasets for machine learning applications in drug discovery. He joined insitro in November 2021 as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist before advancing to his current role in September 2023.123

Educational Background

Zack earned his Ph.D. in Applied Science and Technology from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2019. His doctoral research was conducted in the Waller Lab, where he developed imaging hardware and reconstruction algorithms, honing a diverse skill set that includes optical engineering and large-scale computation.12

Professional Experience

Before joining insitro, Zack worked at Apple as a photonics engineer within the Exploratory Design Group, contributing to various innovative projects.12 He also co-founded SCI Microscopy, which focuses on developing advanced microscope illuminators for quantitative phase imaging, delivering devices to customers globally.1

Personal Interests

Outside of his professional endeavors, Zack enjoys outdoor activities such as surfing, camping, and kitesurfing. He has also been involved in community service through educational programs for children.1
