Zach Sims

Zach Sims is an American entrepreneur best known as the co-founder and former CEO of Codecademy, a prominent online platform that offers interactive coding lessons and tutorials. Born in 1990, Sims demonstrated an early interest in technology, starting a review site for iPod cases at the age of 13. He later attended Columbia University, where he initially pursued a degree in political science but dropped out during his junior year to focus on building Codecademy with his co-founder, Ryan Bubinski.13

Codecademy was launched in 2011 and quickly gained popularity, attracting over 200,000 users in its first weekend and reaching 1 million users by the end of that year. Under Sims' leadership, the platform grew to serve more than 50 million users globally and raised significant funding, including a sale to Skillsoft for over $525 million in 2022.234 Sims has been recognized for his contributions to the tech industry, being named a finalist in the Time 100 and included in Inc. Magazine's 30 Under 30 list.13

In recent developments, Sims stepped down as CEO of Codecademy in June 2023 after over a decade of leadership, expressing gratitude for the impact the platform has had on learners worldwide. He plans to take some time off before pursuing new ventures, including angel investing and exploring new projects.245
