Yuliya Astapova

Yuliya Astapova is a recent graduate with a Master of Computer Science degree specializing in Data Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to that, she completed her undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a double major in Computer Science and Applied Math & Statistics.

Yuliya's passion lies in using her technical skills to make a positive impact on society, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and environmental issues. Her interests revolve around data science, machine learning, and natural language processing.

During her time at Stony Brook University, Yuliya took on a senior thesis project focused on Natural Language Processing, where she explored the automatic generation of poetry using NLP techniques like machine translation with recurrent neural networks. She also served as the Vice President of the Women in Computer Science organization, successfully organizing hackathons and collaborating with sponsors.

Yuliya's professional experience includes roles such as Data Scientist at the NYC Department of Education, Software Engineer at Netsmart Technologies, Software Engineer Intern at S&P Global Market Intelligence, Pink Gloves Boxing Instructor at Stony Brook University, Software Engineer Intern at Applied Visions, Inc., and Research Assistant at the Computer Vision Lab within the Computer Science Department at Stony Brook University.
