Yoli Origel, also known as Yolanda Origel, is the Executive Director and Founder of Cancer Kinship, an organization dedicated to supporting cancer patients and survivors. A 10-year survivor of Stage 3 breast cancer herself, Yoli's personal experience with the disease drives her mission to empower others facing similar challenges.
Background and Experience
Yoli has over 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, having held various roles that have equipped her with the skills necessary to lead Cancer Kinship. Her journey with cancer began when she was diagnosed, leading to extensive treatments including chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy, and multiple reconstructive surgeries. Additionally, Yoli carries the BRCA 1 gene mutation, which heightened her risk for other cancers, prompting her to undergo a hysterectomy as a preventive measure.12
Mission and Vision
Under Yoli's leadership, Cancer Kinship aims to help individuals adjust to their "new normal" after a cancer diagnosis. The organization offers peer mentorship, individualized support, and survivor education to enhance the quality of life for those affected by cancer. Yoli emphasizes the importance of community and connection among survivors, believing that shared experiences can be profoundly healing.12
Personal Motivation
Yoli's motivation to support others stems from her childhood experience with her mother’s battle against breast cancer. Witnessing her mother's struggles instilled in her a desire to provide care and support to others navigating their cancer journeys. This personal history informs her approach to leadership at Cancer Kinship, where she seeks to create impactful programs that foster resilience and hope among survivors.12
