Highlights
I just burned $10,000 on marketing, and it taught me the hardest lesson of my career.
I spent $10,000 on an ad agency and only got 3 sign-ups for my workshop, despite months of ad campaigns and plenty of clicks.
Meanwhile, 30% of students joined through word of mouth and another 30% came through my social media posts.
Here’s what I learned (the hard way):
-
Online ads are easy to measure and have good attribution, but they are not always the most effective channels.
-
Clicks is a bullsh*t metric; don't get distracted by it.
-
Trust beats clicks/impressions. The most powerful marketing comes from relationships, not campaigns.

I asked, you answered, and message received.
I'm adding a Terraform track to my upcoming serverless workshop, so you will have 3 courses for the price of 1!
The new Terraform track will cover the same principles and practices as the existing Serverless Framework and CDK tracks:
- Understand the what, when and why of serverless
- REST APIs with API Gateway and Lambda
- CI/CD
- Event-Driven Architectures
- Domain-Driven Design
- Testing strategy for serverless
- Using ephemeral environments
- Observability
- Cost optimizations
- and more
