Won-Yong Shin

Won-Yong Shin is a prominent academic and entrepreneur, currently serving as a Professor in Computational Science and Engineering at Yonsei University in South Korea. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), which he completed in 2008. Following his doctoral studies, he worked at Harvard University as a Postdoctoral Fellow and later as a Research Associate until 2011.

In addition to his academic role, Dr. Shin is a Co-Founder of Prediction, Inc., established in February 2024, and KAILOS LAB, Inc., founded in June 2021. His involvement in these companies reflects his commitment to advancing technology in various fields, particularly in artificial intelligence and computational science.14

Dr. Shin has also held significant positions at other institutions, including serving as an Adjunct Professor at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) since September 2022 and being the Associate Director at the Institute of State Governance Studies at Yonsei University starting September 2024.13 His research contributions are well recognized, with over 2,100 citations to his work and an h-index of 24, indicating a strong impact in his field.2

He has received various awards for his contributions to research, including the KICS Haedong Young Scholar Award in 2016 and the ICT Express Best Guest Editor Award in 2021.1 Dr. Shin's expertise spans across several areas within computer science, making him a key figure in both academia and industry.
