William Schmidt

William T. Schmidt served as the President and CEO of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) from August 2017 until his retirement in 2022.4 In this role, Schmidt was responsible for guiding the organization in its mission to provide access to quality care, lead research for a cure, and mobilize resources for people with pulmonary fibrosis.14 Before his tenure at the PFF, Schmidt had extensive experience in health care advocacy, having held senior executive positions at organizations such as the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB), the Epilepsy Foundation of America, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.12 As CEO of FFB, he managed the largest non-governmental source of funding for retinal degenerative disease research and grew annual revenues from $16 million to $40 million.12
Schmidt is a native of Evanston, Illinois, and holds a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and completed the Kellogg Graduate School of Management's Executive Development Program.12 He also graduated with honors from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts.12 After retiring from the PFF, Schmidt became the President of Assisting Your Independent Living Inc. "AYIL" in September 2023.3
