William McCarren is an entrepreneur with a decade of operational experience from Amazon, Rocket Internet, and his own ventures. He is currently the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of FARO Africa, a South African recommerce startup that secured $6 million in funding to expand operations aimed at reducing textile waste and making fashion more affordable across Africa.13

Prior to FARO, McCarren founded ZUMI, a B2B e-commerce platform for clothing retailers in Africa. As CEO of ZUMI from October 2016 to March 2023, he grew the platform to $2 million in monthly sales with 5,000 retailers and raised over $5 million in equity from global venture capital investors.4 However, ZUMI closed its doors in March 2023 due to difficulties in fundraising and achieving sustainability.2

In June 2023, McCarren co-founded FARO Africa, which has shown impressive growth, reaching $2.3 million in revenue in its first year with just four stores.13 FARO's business model focuses on repurposing unsold or returned inventory from global fashion brands and selling them at discounts of up to 70% in African markets.1
