William Barnes, Founding Partner at Karman Ventures

William Barnes is a founding partner at Karman Ventures, a venture capital firm he co-founded in 2018 with Josh Mohrer. Karman Ventures is backed by early employees of Uber and other successful startups.14

Prior to co-founding Karman Ventures, Barnes held various roles at Uber from 2012 to 2017, including General Manager and Senior Director of U.S. West Coast Operations, where he played a key role in building and scaling the company's operations on the West Coast.123

Before joining Uber, Barnes founded two companies:

• uCrave, which saw significant growth during his tenure1
• NerdyShirts.com, which he successfully acquired, scaled, and sold1

Barnes is a graduate of the University of the West of England with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.2 He is based in Austin, Texas.3

At Karman Ventures, Barnes leads a group of former Uber executives in making investments. He has invested in startups like Lime, Pietra, Veho, Superhuman, Codi, Snackpass, Kyte, Anduril, and SpaceX.3 Barnes also founded a broader Uber alumni association with over 3,000 members.3
