Wendy Levy is an accomplished professional in the media arts and documentary film industry, with a keen focus on storytelling, innovation, and social justice.
As the Executive Director of The Alliance for Media Arts + Culture, Wendy leads initiatives that foster collaboration, innovation, and social impact within the media arts sector.
Wendy's extensive experience includes roles such as Senior Consultant at Sundance Institute, where she contributed to the Sundance/Skoll Stories of Change Program and the New Frontier Story Lab.
She also directed the MacArthur Foundation-funded Producers Institute for New Media Technologies, the first public media Innovation Lab in the US.
Wendy's career kicked off in the film industry as the Festival Director for the Film Arts Festival for Independent Cinema at Film Arts Foundation in San Francisco.
Recognized for her outstanding contributions to the media arts field, Wendy is a recipient of the prestigious Princess Grace Statue Award.
During her time as Creative Director at Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) from 2004 to 2011, Wendy spearheaded various initiatives including the Producers Institute and the Mediamaker Fellows Program.
Under Wendy's leadership, BAVC received the MacArthur Foundation Award for Creative and Effective Institutions in 2011.
She has lent her expertise as an Advisor to organizations like the Tribeca New Media Fund, New Zealand’s Screen Edge, and International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission, among others.
Wendy is actively involved in the industry and serves as President of the Board of Skylight.
A sought-after speaker, Wendy regularly presents at festivals and conferences worldwide, covering topics ranging from media and documentary to emerging technology and human rights.
In addition to her leadership roles, Wendy is an accomplished filmmaker with screenings at prestigious events like Sundance Film Festival and broadcasts on platforms like PBS and the Sundance Channel.
Wendy pursued her MFA in Cinema at San Francisco State University and holds a Bachelor's degree in English/Ethnopoetics from Oberlin College.
