Ward Verrijcken was a prominent Belgian journalist and film critic, known for his work with VRT NWS. Born on July 16, 1973, in Leuven, he initially studied medicine before switching to Germanic languages at the Katholieke Universiteit Brussel and KU Leuven. His career in journalism began with writing for the film magazine TEEK, where he eventually became the editorial coordinator.12
In 2001, Verrijcken joined VRT as a film reporter for "De Rode Loper," a role that continued until the show's conclusion in 2011. Tragically, Ward Verrijcken passed away on October 31, 2020, at the age of 47. His death was met with shock and sorrow within the journalism community, as he was remembered for his passionate storytelling and deep love for cinema.25
