Vladimir Tenev is a Bulgarian-American entrepreneur and the co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of Robinhood, a financial technology company known for its commission-free trading platform and user-friendly mobile app. Born on February 13, 1987, in Varna, Bulgaria, Tenev moved to the United States with his family at a young age and grew up in Virginia. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Stanford University, where he met his future business partner, Baiju Bhatt. Tenev also pursued a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) before dropping out to start his business ventures with Bhatt.123
Tenev and Bhatt co-founded Robinhood in 2013 with the mission to democratize finance by making investing easier, cheaper, and more accessible to everyone. Before Robinhood, they started two other finance-related companies: Celeris, a high-frequency trading firm, and Chronos Research, which provided software tools for automated trading strategies.12 Under Tenev's leadership, Robinhood has experienced significant growth, reaching a valuation of $32 billion at its IPO in July 2021.13
In addition to his work at Robinhood, Tenev co-founded the AI startup Harmonic in 2023, focusing on reducing AI hallucinations.12 He has been recognized for his achievements, including being named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2016 and inducted into the Forbes 30 Under 30 Hall of Fame in 2022.3
