Peel-Works' motto: To deliver better lives for India's corner stores

Peel-Works (PW) is a funded B2B eCommerce company whose mission is to bring digital inclusion to the 15 million corner stores in India. PW servers corner stores through its eCommerce platform Taikee and PoS platform Mojo. It servers CPG companies through its analytics platform Mojo.  

At Peel-Works, my focus was on building the right Product-Process-People mix for our innovation hubs in Bangalore and Pune. Key accomplishments:-
- Drove Product, Engineering and Data strategies for Taikee (B2B eCommerce platform for corner
stores), Mojo (POS, ERP & Analytics platform) & 1SF (Sales force platform)
- Built capabilities spanning discovery, logistics, fintech, pricing and sourcing, with a focus on delivering exceptional customer experience

As part of a 2-member team, I attempted to build a start-up from scratch. The idea was a smart platform for connecting talent to opportunity via real-world challenges and case-studies. For companies, the value proposition was to hire candidates for real skills and not resumes. For aspirants, the value proposition was to get a fair chance at applying to top companies, to experience solving real-world problems, and to build a portfolio of demonstrable assets. Our vision was to create a Hackerrank for non-programming jobs.

I contributed to ideation, market research, business plan development, MVP development, launch strategy, and customer acquisition strategy. We built an MVP and validated the market need with companies, candidates, and subject-matter experts.

I led product and engineering for several flagship products that are key components of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. My key accomplishments: -

Oracle Autonomous Database - Spearheaded the implementation of self-driving capabilities, leveraging machine learning algorithms for automated performance tuning and optimization. Designed and implemented advanced data lifecycle management features, including automatic data tiering and compression for cost-effective storage utilization. Led the development of intelligent workload management features, dynamically allocating resources based on application demands to optimize performance and cost.

Oracle Exadata - Implemented advanced storage management features, such as Hybrid Columnar Compression, for efficient data storage and retrieval. Led the development of integrated flash caching algorithms, reducing I/O latency and improving overall system responsiveness. 

Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) - Designed and implemented enhancements to improve scalability and fault tolerance, enabling seamless horizontal scaling of database resources across multiple nodes. Led the development of advanced workload management features, including dynamic resource allocation and load balancing algorithms, to optimize cluster performance. Integrated with Oracle Grid Infrastructure for streamlined cluster management and resource allocation, simplifying administration and maintenance tasks.

Oracle GoldenGate - Developed real-time data replication features for continuous data synchronization between heterogeneous databases and platforms. Implemented conflict resolution mechanisms to ensure data consistency and integrity in distributed environments. Led the development of integrated monitoring and management tools for proactive performance optimization and troubleshooting.

I developed a multimedia (real-time audio, video) webcasting solution for delivering company presentations, online courses and conferences. The tool was built to be configurable at several levels such as authentication, unicast or multicast stream type, live webcast, webcast on demand, automatic webcast notifications etc.

I interacted with the client and key stakeholders in requirements analysis, system design, coding, testing, deployment, troubleshooting and issue-resolution, and user documentation. I was involved in integrating the tool with 3rd party software (Virage Streaming Solutions Server) and the organization's LDAP directory. I also tied the solution to various databases including MySQL and Oracle. Post-implementation, I helped maintain and enhance the software until all the SLAs had been met.

I worked with Perl, PHP, SQL, MySQL, Oracle, Windows Media Server and Virage Streaming Solutions.

Staff Engineer

I tested and qualified SCSI & SATA Host Bus Adapters for deployment in Dell Workstations. I contributed to test plan development, subsystem testing and integration (testing of firmware, hardware and software along with debugging) on various hardware configurations & platforms, root-cause anaylsis and problem resolution. I also helped with performance analysis and benchmarking.

Out of my own initiative, I developed a test automation framework using Windows batch scripts and  VBScript that significantly helped reduce manual testing effort.

The technologies and tools that I worked with include RAID, SCSI, SATA, Logic analyzers, Windows scripting, VBScript, Windows NT/2K/XP, Winbench and Winstone.

I was awarded the highest rating (1 on a scale of 5) for my performance as an intern.

Engineer Intern

As a student at TAMU, I worked part time as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Cognition and Instructional Technologies Laboratory and later at Foundation Coalition. At both the centres, I developed web-based learning solutions for students of Engineering disciplines. 

I was involved in end-to-end development, right from initial requirements gathering and high level design to module design, database design, development, testing, deployment, support and maintenance. The systems I developed are still being used by professors as instructional aids. My work may be seen at http://www.foundationcoalition.org

The technologies I used include ColdFusion, PHP, Javascript, CSS, SQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, ERwin and ActionScript for Flash.

Graduate Research Assistant

My first project at Hughes was the development of a simulator for a network of satellite modems. As part of a 3-member team, I contributed to system analysis, high-level design, low-level design, coding and testing of the simulator. I developed the message-exchange protocol and suggested optimizations  in the handshake mechanism. I was also involved in user documentation.

The other project I contributed to, as part of a 4-member team, was the design and development of call processing modules for an implementation of the V5.2 protocol stack. V5.2 is an access protocol used for communication between the access network and local exchange in a Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) network. I also tested the implementation on a simulated wireless communication environment.

The technologies I worked with were C++, gdb, BSD Sockets, Java, Solaris, ClearCase, V5.2, WLL and GSM.

Hughes Software Systems

Software Engineer

I contributed to requirements analysis, high level design, low level design, development and testing of a Project Management System for use by CMM level 5 compliant organizations. 

I understood CMM, interacted with customers and third party vendors, and liaised with stakeholders in other teams. I contributed significantly to the design of database schemas and coding of modules for scheduling, baselining, document management, defects tracking, metrics estimation, reports generation and integration with Microsoft Project. I was also involved in unit testing, functional testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing and system deployment.

The technologies I worked with include Microsoft SQL Server, Visual Basic, ASP and Java.

HCL Perot Systems

As part of a 2 member team, I developed NMS, a suite of network management and monitoring software. It included tools for network traffic monitoring, network-usage statistics generation, customer billing, network monitoring (PING, Traceroute, DNS) and network management (using Simple Network Management Protocol version 1).

I understood several networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, SNMP), learnt Java from scratch, and contributed to the design, development, testing and documentation of the software. My co-developer and I presented this software as our final year project to much acclaim.
