Victoria Brownworth

Victoria Brownworth is an accomplished investigative journalist, author, professor, and activist with extensive experience in LGBTQ and feminist causes. As the first out lesbian columnist for a daily newspaper in the US, she has been nominated for prestigious awards like the Pulitzer Prize, Lambda Literary Award and IPPY, and has won several others. She contributes regularly to top publications like The Independent, Curve, and The Huffington Post, and has authored close to 30 books, including 'Coming Out of Cancer: Writings from the Lesbian Cancer Epidemic,' 'Day of the Dead,' and 'From Where We Sit: Black Writers Write Black Youth.'

Brownworth is a former columnist and editor at various publications, including the San Francisco Bay Area Reporter, Lambda Literary Review, Curve Magazine, and The Baltimore Sun. She co-founded Tiny Satchel Press, an award-winning independent press focused on young adult books for LGBT youth and youth of color, and KITH, a reading/writing mentoring program for inner-city youth.

Brownworth's writing and activism extend beyond LGBTQ and feminist issues, encompassing anti-gun lobbying, women's health, and disability rights. She's also a co-founder of Foundation for Feline Urban Rescue, a no-kill cat shelter/rescue for feral cats. Brownworth's educational background includes studying history and women's studies at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in history/women's studies from Temple University.
