Universidad Complutense
Victor Jiménez Cid is a prominent academic and researcher at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), where he serves as a Catedrático (Professor) in the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology. He obtained his PhD in 1996, focusing on genetic and molecular aspects of morphogenesis in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, under the guidance of professors Miguel Sánchez and César Nombela. Following his doctoral studies, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley, before joining UCM as a faculty member in 2003.1
His research interests primarily lie in the molecular and cellular biology of yeast, particularly in cell signaling processes. He has developed "humanized yeast" models to investigate genes associated with human diseases, including cancer and infectious diseases. In addition to his research, Jiménez Cid has directed multiple PhD theses and published over 48 scientific articles. He is also involved in various editorial roles for international scientific journals and participates actively in the Spanish Society of Microbiology, where he serves as Treasurer.12
In his personal interests, he enjoys homebrewing and winemaking, reflecting his passion for yeast beyond academic research.1
