Verne Gay

Verne Gay is a seasoned journalist with almost 25 years of experience as Newsday's lead writer on the television industry. His expertise covers TV journalism, entertainment, personalities, industry trends, political media, primetime schedules, and breaking news. He is also Newsday's TV critic since 2009.

Throughout his career, Verne has produced features on major figures in news and entertainment, including Walter Cronkite, Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, Diane Sawyer, Ted Koppel, and Oprah Winfrey. He established the award-winning analysis column "Off Camera" in 1991, which was distributed by the Tribune Syndicate and Los Angeles Times-Washington Post syndicate until 2009.

Verne studied Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), English/Philosophy at Colgate University. He has also served as Chief TV writer at Variety.
