Vasily Gatov

Vasily Gatov is a seasoned media researcher and author based in Boston, with over 30 years of experience in both domestic and international media. He currently serves as a Research Analyst at FILTERLABS.AI. His professional journey began in 1985 as a reporter, and he has since held various roles, including media manager and investment expert.12
Gatov's research focuses on the re-emergence of totalitarian censorship in Russian media, and he is in the process of writing a book that aims to define the new censorship framework through interviews with various stakeholders in the media landscape. His extensive experience includes reporting on significant historical events in Russia, such as the Chernobyl disaster and the first Chechen war. He has also held executive positions at several media organizations, including RIA Novosti, where he founded Novosti Media Lab, a research and development initiative.1
In addition to his role at FILTERLABS.AI, Gatov is a Senior Fellow at the USC Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership and Policy and contributes to various publications both in Russia and internationally.
