Dr. Valerie Hill is a distinguished librarian and educator specializing in library and information science, with expertise in school librarianship and a keen focus on researching new media in digital culture.
With a strong passion for information literacy, human-computer interaction, and emerging technology trends, particularly for the metamodern and youth audiences, Dr. Hill brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her field.
She has a versatile background, having served as a National Writing Trainer, adept at connecting literature to writing, and has undertaken research in areas such as immersive learning in libraries and education, literacy needs in MOOCs, and gamification such as Minecraft.
An accomplished speaker, Dr. Hill shares insights on various emerging technology trends in education and librarianship, including user-generated content and curation, gamification, virtual worlds, and digital citizenship.
Her specialties and interests encompass a wide range of topics such as information literacy (across all formats), digital citizenship, multi-media production, children's literature, immersive learning environments, and 21st-century learning standards.
Dr. Hill holds a PhD in Library and Information Studies, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas Woman's University. She also obtained a Certificate in Virtual Worlds from the iSchool at the University of Washington and a Master of Library Science (MLS) from Texas Woman's University.
Throughout her career, Dr. Hill has been actively involved in various organizations and educational institutions, including serving as the Secretary at New Media Arts, Inc., Adjunct Instructor of Multimedia Communication at Peninsula College, Director at the Community Virtual Library, and holding teaching and librarian positions at Lewisville ISD.
