Vadim Smolyakov

Vadim Smolyakov is a Data Scientist II in the Enterprise & Security DI R&D team at Microsoft, with a background in statistical inference, machine learning at scale, software architecture design, computer vision, natural language processing, algorithm design, and applied mathematics.

With leadership skills in team management, communication, team building, process improvement, strategy planning, life coaching, diversity and inclusion, and entrepreneurship, Vadim leverages his expertise to develop AI products at scale and lead diverse teams in his current role.

His programming proficiency includes Python, C/C++, Scala, Spark, SQL, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras, with a project portfolio available on GitHub for further exploration.

Vadim was a former PhD student in AI at MIT CSAIL, specializing in Bayesian inference and deep learning, and has prior experience in developing machine learning solutions in the e-commerce sector.

His academic journey includes pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Artificial Intelligence at MIT, a Minor in Finance at MIT Sloan School of Management, a MASc in Electrical Engineering focusing on Wireless Architecture and Digital Communication at the University of Toronto, and a BASc (Honors) in Engineering Science with a major in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto.

Throughout his career, Vadim has held roles at prestigious organizations such as Microsoft, Rue Gilt Groupe, Shopify, Qualcomm, MaxLinear, and Silicon Optix, where he contributed as a Data Scientist, Research Assistant, Systems Research Intern, Teaching Assistant, Digital Baseband Design Engineer, Communication Systems Intern, and Video Engineer.
