Dean and Koffman Scholar at Binghamton University
Upinder Singh Dhillon was the Dean of the School of Management (SOM) at Binghamton University for over 20 years until his passing in April 2022 at the age of 71.12 He was a respected leader who made a significant impact on the school and its students. In 1997, Dhillon was promoted to professor and named a Koffman Scholar.2
Dhillon's tenure as dean was marked by his dedication to students, faculty, and alumni. He was known for his warmth, inspiration, and kindness, qualities that made him an effective leader and beloved figure in the Binghamton University community.1 Under his leadership, the School of Management experienced growth and achieved numerous accomplishments.1
His legacy continues through the Dhillon Family Faculty Fellow Endowment, established with over $1.3 million in commitments from friends of the school. This endowment supports a SOM faculty member who excels in both groundbreaking research and inspiring instruction.1
Dhillon was remembered fondly by colleagues, alumni, and family members for his passion for education, his focus on students, and his ability to motivate others. His impact extended beyond his professional role, as he was also remembered as a loving father by his sons, Eishpal and Tejpal.1
