In this role, I had to be familiar with clinic and hospital systems, processes, services and personnel. Service sales travel took me to both United States and international locations. I was part of a four-person start-up team that initiated outreach and forged relationships with over 120 medical practices in Florida, Georgia and Central America.

System management functions related to keeping DEC OpenVMS VAX and Alpha systems running continuously and efficiently for operation in a Hospital/Clinic environment which must be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Duties included but not limited to: writing system management routines in DCL, specifying and purchasing software and hardware systems, scheduling and performing computer system upgrades and repairs, and specifications, design, implementation, testing and documentation of a wireless message board system.

Responsibilities included but not limited to: 2nd level support for all site OpenVMS and VMS systems, system management duties for two Alpha 2100’s, two Alphastation 200’s, and one DECaxp 150 all running OpenVMS and backup support for network and Windows NT server personnel, and site manager of the OSI PI software for the Oconee Nuclear station. Operating systems supported: OpenVMS, Windows for Workgroups, and Windows NT.

System Administrator of two unclassified and one classified DEC VAXcluster systems that supported over 4,000 users. The three supported clusters consisted of a total of thirteen VAX 8650’s, one MicroVAX II, two DEC 7000-300’s and one VAX 11/780 running under VMS. Custom system software design, coding and testing in Digital Control Language (DCL). Functions include development, documentation, and installation of system and network software, performance tuning, installation and upgrading of the operating system, and providing consulting services to users and support personnel.

Software Engineer - Ada software design, development, and testing of the Brilliant Eyes simulation software for the United States Government Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI).Systems Engineer - Responsibilities included, but were not limited to: design and implementation of IEEE 802.3 based computer networks for nuclear power plant monitoring systems - this includes all hardware (bridges, repeaters, networking boards, etc.) and setting up all layered software (VMS, DECnet, Pathworks, VAXcluster, DECnet-SNA, etc.); software design and coding in the computer language FORTRAN for existing SAIC Plant Monitoring Software (SAIPMS) which includes many custom interfaces to other computer systems (i.e. BAILEY, BORON METERS, etc.) as well as network task to task communications used to communicate with IBM AT compatible PC’s; also utilized in contract proposal development and was lead hardware engineer on the Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant Project and the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant Project.
