Tonya Robinson
Vice Chair and General Counsel at KPMG US
Tonya T. Robinson was the Vice Chair and General Counsel for Legal, Regulatory and Compliance at KPMG LLP from 2017 to 2024.14 She was responsible for overseeing the Office of General Counsel, the Ethics and Compliance Group, and the Office of Government Affairs and Public Policy.1 Robinson also served as Secretary to the U.S. Firm's Board of Directors and as Head of Legal and Compliance for the Americas Region.1
Before her tenure at KPMG, Robinson had an extensive career in public service and private practice:
- She served as the Acting General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.14
- She worked in the White House as Special Assistant to President Obama for Justice and Regulatory Policy.14
- She was a partner at the international law firm WilmerHale LLP.34
- She served as counsel on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs.1
Robinson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy Studies and a Certificate in Women's Studies from Duke University, a post-graduate degree in African Studies from the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and a Juris Doctor Degree from Harvard Law School.34
As of August 2024, Robinson has been appointed as the new General Counsel and Managing Director of Vanguard's legal division, set to join the firm in October 2024.23
