Chief Technical Adviser

Project Management: 1. Lead and oversee the overall execution of the project, including staff contracting, planning, implementation and monitoring in conformity with ILO policies and project strategies, and in accordance with ILO programming guidelines and country/action programs, and administrative and financial procedures, in consultation with the responsible units. 2. Effectively manage funds/budget and human resources of the project including recruitment, performance and talent management aspects. Technical leadership and advice: 3. Provide technical support in value chain analysis and development, in market development approaches and in business support capacity building to the project team and to the stakeholders of the project including relevant government agencies and other key institutions, ideally through gender and conflict sensitive approaches. 4. Provide expertise on business development services (BDS) and enterprise development to constituents (government counterparts, employers and workers organizations), value chain actors and implementing partners. Liaise with the ILO technical teams providing support in these areas Advocacy, networking and partnership: 5. Foster and maintain contacts and relations with governments, ministries, the employers' and workers' organizations, value chain and sectoral stakeholders, non-governmental organizations, target groups and donors, and promote opportunities for collaboration towards planning and implementation of programme activities. 6. Liaise with the other UN agencies counterparts to promote ILO's values, increase the project's visibility and facilitate the scaling-up of the project's interventions. Ensure effective coordination with a range of relevant national policies and the strategies of various projects in the ILO including those being undertaken by other agencies. Ensure coordination with other EU funded components  in Sierra Leone, including with UNCDF’s initiatives on access to finance.

Chief Technical Advisor

Project seeks to facilitate the enhancement of competitiveness of rural and urban value chains in northern Afghanistan in order to improve job creation and incomes for the poor who include migrant workers, returnees, IDPs and their host communities. Responsible for overall management of the project including planning and budgeting, oversight of interventions design, implementation and results measurement. Major part of the work includes brokering and structuring market deals which seek to create decent jobs within the selected value chains.

International Labour Organization

Technical advice and support to Jobs Creation staff and national partners.
Lead in Market Systems Development and job creation processes of the project.
Provide technical support in rapid market assessments, local competitiveness assessments, sector selection,value chain analysis development, market development approaches and business support capacity building to the project team and stakeholders  including relevant government institutions.
Manage the close coordination with other ILO projects, share best practices and lessons learnt with other units and external stakeholders.
Promote ILO policies regarding Decent Work,  fundamental rights at work and relevant International Labour standards.

Market Systems Development Officer

The purpose of this post is to establish AAA in Malawi. This is being incubated as a business unit within Self Help Africa (SHA), once viable it will be an independent social enterprise. I am  responsible for developing AAA into a demand-driven service, that is responsive to the priorities of farmer organisations and local, regional and global market opportunities. I am responsible for building relationships in Malawi, make connections and structure deals that make business sense for all actors.

This is the first AAA Country Manager role established; as such I am contributing to the wider development of AAA’s business model and will influence scaling up in the Southern Africa region.

Registered the organization in Malawi and significantly raised its profile nationally.

Designed several projects to meet community needs: 1. Sustainable agriculture practices and Community Management of Wetlands. 2. Youth entrepreneurship development project.  3. Mobile voluntary counseling and testing services 4. Improving community participation in the management of schools 5. AIDS Action Clubs in Schools project. 6. Production of an HIV/AIDS film for adolescents. 7.Improved Forest Management

Enterprise Specialist

Liaison at Director, company investor, standards association and government ministerial levels.
designed field trials for drip irrigation for 1,000 smallholder farmers nationwide and advised on implementation. Recruited and trained COMPASS II  Project Manager and partner Project managers from  3 international and 2 local NGOs.
investigated and recommended market development strategies for drip irrigation technology among smallholder farmers in Malawi.
Major Outputs
Partners like NASFAM, Total Landcare, Save the Children USA and GOAL Malawi have all invested in their own drip irrigation interventions.
PIPECO and  Variety Irrigation Systems now supplying drip irrigation systems in Malawi

COMPASS II Project/USAID

Drip Irrigation Market Development Consultant

Institutional design, set up and management/ Projects design and management. 
Teamed up with 2 other colleagues and set up the LEAD Trust in August 2004. Went on voluntary retrenchment from DAI's LEAD Program to set up systems. 
Funding secured from International Organisation for Migration ( IOM) , COSV, USAID, HIVOS and the  European Union.
 Grew the institution from a team of 6 to 19 staff in 15 months, from an institution with no budget to a budget running to 2 years.

The LEAD Trust

Operations Director

worked 20% of time as Associate Consultant for ECI Africa, South Africa.
Management of Relief and Recovery Operations - distributed more than 23,000 drip irrigation kits for household nutrition gardens to drought stricken households. Redesigned  and evolved the project into a food/ nutrition security with income intervention.
Grants Management - gave and managed 33 grants with local and international NGOs to implement project.
Commercialisation of Drip Irrigation/ Market Linkages - Partnered with Pundutso Microfinance (a microfinance arm of World Vision International Zimbabwe) to finance smallholder farmers linked to a buyer of horticultural produce.
 Linking farmers with markets  - managed the ostrich linkage increasing 400 farmers' incomes by almost 400% - also managed the cotton linkage which increased 3,250 farmer incomes by up to 200%.
Business training - was the internal business training resource person for market linkages covering goats, dairy goats, soya beans, dairy, paprika, chillies, coffee, ostriches and horticultural produce. Developed the business of cotton farming trainer's manual and the Drip irrigation trainer's manual.
Enterpreneurship development programme- managed the Junior Achievers Zimbabwe schools entrepreneurship programme involving more than 5,000 students.
