Tom Chen

Tom Chen is a seasoned professional with a background in integrating antibody screening data with baseline profiles of cell lines and animal studies. He has extensive experience working with over 50 cell lines and more than 15 different projects in prestigious companies like Genentech and Regeneron.
Tom has led cross-functional projects in pre-clinical biologics drug development, showcasing hands-on expertise from target identification to IND-enabling studies. His experience includes therapeutic pipeline due diligence and a deep understanding of the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
In addition to his technical skills, Tom has a talent for leadership. He has successfully hired and trained two research associates (RA) and three summer interns, creating a highly motivated team in antibody research and development. Under his guidance, one intern secured a permanent position at Biogen, while another received an NSF I-Corp grant to kickstart a start-up.
Tom's expertise spans across bioassay development, molecular cell biology, cancer cell signaling, vascular biology, and matrix biology. His work has resulted in securing several government research fundings and publishing high-impact scientific papers in renowned journals like Cell, Journal of Cell Biology, and EBM, with over 1000 total citations.
Known for his excellent communication and collaboration skills, Tom has presented in multiple conferences through oral and poster presentations. He has four 2nd-author publications to his credit and has contributed to various co-authored works. Additionally, he is skilled in writing patents, IND reports, reviews, manuscripts, grants, and fellowships.
Tom Chen pursued his undergraduate studies in Molecular Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, before completing his PhD in Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology at UCLA. Over the course of his career, he has held key positions at Kronos Bio, Inc. including Principal Scientist and Senior Scientist. He has also served as a Staff Scientist at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Scientist at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Genentech, and Postdoc Fellow at UCLA, among other roles in academia and industry.
Furthermore, Tom has a diverse academic background, having worked as a Vascular Biology Graduate Trainee at UCLA, a Teaching Assistant at UCLA, a Research Assistant at UCSF Medical Center, and a Part-time Research Assistant at USDA.
