Todd Molz

Todd Molz is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Oaktree Capital Management, L.P., a position he will officially assume in 2024. He has been with Oaktree since 2006, previously serving as General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer. In these roles, he was responsible for overseeing compliance, internal audit, administration, and all legal activities, including fund formation and acquisitions.123

Education and Early Career

Molz graduated cum laude from Middlebury College with a Bachelor of Arts in political science. He earned his Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University of Chicago, where he was involved in the Law Review and received the John M. Olin Student Fellowship. He began his legal career as a law clerk for Judge Alfred T. Goodwin at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and later became a partner at the law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, focusing on tax and structuring aspects of complex business transactions.123

Leadership Role

As COO, Molz will oversee the day-to-day operations of Oaktree, with all non-investment functions reporting to him. His promotion is part of a broader leadership transition at Oaktree, where Robert O'Leary and Armen Panossian will also take on roles as co-Chief Executive Officers.234 This transition reflects Oaktree's commitment to maintaining its culture of risk control and ethical practices while positioning itself for future growth.34
