Research Vice President at Gartner
Tim Payne is the Research Vice President of the Supply Chain Research Group at Gartner, a role he has held since June 2005. In this position, he serves as the lead analyst for Gartner’s research on supply chain planning technology, which encompasses areas such as Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), demand planning, supply and manufacturing planning, and scheduling. He provides advisory services to Gartner's global client base regarding supply chain strategy, selection, evaluation, and implementation of processes and technologies. Additionally, he manages the research agenda for the core supply chain research team, overseeing the direction and content produced by a group of supply chain analysts.134
Before joining Gartner, Payne worked as a supply chain consultant and held various roles, including European Supply Chain Director at NCH Europe and European Supply Chain Development Manager at 3M. His extensive background in supply chain management includes significant achievements such as implementing new supply chain planning systems and developing strategies that resulted in substantial cost savings and improved operational efficiencies.12
Payne is also recognized for his thought leadership in the field, particularly regarding the concept of antifragility in supply chains, which emphasizes the ability of supply chains to thrive amid uncertainty.25
