Tim Murphy is the Director at BluSky Innovation Camp, located at Camp Douglas Smith. He is an alumnus of Kendall College of Art and Design (KCAD), where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Design in 2002. Murphy is leading a transformative initiative to convert Camp Douglas Smith into Camp BluSky, which aims to serve as an innovative educational center that combines design education for youth, entrepreneurial acceleration for startups, and a creative think tank for larger corporations.
Murphy's vision for Camp BluSky emphasizes hands-on learning and creativity, providing participants with access to advanced tools and technologies, such as 3D modeling software and fabrication equipment. He believes that the best ideas emerge when people engage in both work and leisure activities, fostering a collaborative and open environment for brainstorming and innovation. This approach is designed to break down traditional corporate barriers and encourage fresh thinking among participants, including college students and industry professionals who will act as mentors.12
Murphy also teaches in the Industrial Design program at KCAD and is passionate about introducing younger generations to design principles early on, advocating for investment in their creative education.1
