Tien-Thanh Nguyen
Engineer, AI and Robotics Researcher
Biography
Tien-Thanh Nguyen is a researcher at the Robotics & Autonomous Systems unit of the Department of Mechanics at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels, Belgium.12 His research focuses on robotic system integration, 3D reconstruction, real-time perception, planning and control in dynamic, uncertain and occluded environments.1
Nguyen received his Master's degree in Mechatronics and Micro-Mechatronics in 2010 from the École nationale supérieure de Mécanique et des Microtechniques (France) and Hochschule Karlsruhe – Technik und Wirtschaft (Germany), with a thesis on modeling and identification of the INCA cable-driven robot.12
Prior to joining the Royal Military Academy, Nguyen worked as a researcher at KU Leuven in the framework of the EU FP7 project CROPS, where he was responsible for designing and integrating robots for harvesting apples and grapes.12 He also spent several years working as a development engineer in the automotive industry at Tenneco.2
Research Projects
Nguyen is currently working on the MarLand research project at the Royal Military Academy, which aims to develop automated take-off and landing methodologies for unmanned aerial vehicles from Belgian Navy vessels.12 Some of his recent publications include:
