Thomas Fiedler

Thomas Fiedler is a highly accomplished journalist and editorial leader, known for his outstanding expertise in news reporting, writing, and editorial management. A graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, Fiedler served as the executive editor of The Miami Herald from 2001 to 2007. During his tenure, he led the newspaper’s coverage of several major events including the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Under his guidance, the paper won a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Elian Gonzalez custody battle.

Before joining The Miami Herald, Fiedler worked as a reporter and editor for The Boston Globe. He covered a variety of beats and served as the chief political correspondent during the 1988 presidential campaign. He also served as the Globe's Washington bureau chief from 1993 to 1996.

After retiring from The Miami Herald, Fiedler joined Boston University’s College of Communication as the Dean. During his tenure, he oversaw the construction of a new building and launched the Center for Science and Medical Reporting.

Currently, Fiedler is a professor of the practice of journalism and serves as the director of the school’s communications and media program. In addition to his teaching, he writes a regular column for The Boston Globe and appears regularly as a political analyst on New England Cable News.
