Terry O'Daniel

Terry O'Daniel is the Director of Engineering (Risk & Compliance) at Instacart, where he leads the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) efforts within the Infrastructure Engineering team. His approach emphasizes leveraging technology to automate and streamline GRC processes, moving away from traditional compliance methods that rely heavily on spreadsheets. O'Daniel has also served as the interim head of Security at Instacart during a significant growth phase, focusing on cyber risk management to ensure system compliance and data security.12

Before joining Instacart, O'Daniel had an extensive career in security and risk management across several major companies. He was instrumental in building the Security Assurance function at Netflix and led the Technology Risk & Compliance functions at Salesforce. Additionally, he developed the GRC function within Production Engineering at Yahoo! His diverse background includes roles in quantitative-risk and cybersecurity consulting, as well as experience in various startups.123
