Sylvana Mahmic

Sylvana Mahmic is a dedicated advocate for people with disabilities and their families, driven by personal experience since her son Abdul-Karim was diagnosed with a disability in 1991.

She has a strong educational background in special education, with a Bachelor's in Education, a Master's degree, and ongoing doctoral studies focusing on individualized support and self-directed funding.

Currently serving as the CEO of Plumtree, Sylvana's expertise extends to various roles in organizations such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme Independent Advisory Group, Early Childhood Intervention Australia, and the Diversity Disability Alliance board.

Her commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities and their families is evident in her involvement in over 15 reference and advisory groups, as well as multiple Ministerial appointments.

Drawing from personal experiences with self-managed funding, Sylvana advocates for the potential of this approach to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.
