Sydney Skybetter is a prominent choreographer known for his groundbreaking work at the intersection of dance and emerging technologies. His choreography has graced prestigious venues like The Kennedy Center and Jacob’s Pillow. He is acclaimed for his thought leadership on dance technologies, evident in his lectures at esteemed institutions such as SXSW, Yale, and Harvard University.
Sydney's creative vision has attracted collaborations and consultations with renowned organizations including The National Ballet of Canada, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and Hasbro. He has been supported by esteemed foundations like the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Recognized for his innovative work, Sydney has been honored with a Creative Capital 'Wild Futures' Award.
In addition to his creative endeavors, Sydney Skybetter is deeply engaged in academia. He has held various positions at Brown University, including Deputy Dean of the College for Curriculum and Co-Curriculum, Associate Professor of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies, and the first tenured choreographer at the university. Sydney is also associated with metaLAB at Harvard University and has contributed significantly to publications like WIRED and Dance Magazine.
Not limiting himself to traditional forms of expression, Sydney is the founder of the Conference for Research on Choreographic Interfaces and the host of the popular podcast 'Dances with Robots.' His diverse educational background includes MFA and BFA studies in Dance Performance and Choreography at New York University, along with additional training in Choreography at Columbia University and the Interlochen Arts Academy.
