Sven van Berkel
Sven van Berkel is a highly accomplished and motivated electrical engineer with a background in telecommunication engineering and specialization in electromagnetic wave theory, high-frequency antenna design, passive imaging system development, and radar systems. He has a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Master of Science (MSc) degree both in Electrical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, and recently completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Electromagnetics with cum laude honors from the same institution. During his Ph.D., he worked with the Terahertz Sensing Group at Delft University, where he conducted research on electromagnetic wave theory and high-frequency antenna design, with his work focusing on passive image systems.
Currently, Sven holds a NASA Postdoctoral Fellow position at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he specializes in developing submillimeter-wave devices and technologies for the remote sensing of Earth and planetary bodies. Prior to that, he served as a board member of the Micro-Electronic Systems & Technology Association (MEST) at TU Delft while working as a PhD candidate with the Terahertz Sensing Group, where he also completed his master thesis and began as a trainee.
Sven's expertise in electromagnetic wave theory, high-frequency antenna design, passive imaging systems, and radar systems makes him valuable to organizations or projects that require remote sensing and image processing technologies. He is interested in submillimeter-wave devices and technologies for remote sensing and planetary exploration.
