Orchestra and Artistic Director, Newark-Granville Youth Symphony at Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra
Susan Larson is the founder and artistic director of the Newark-Granville Youth Symphony, a position she has held since its inception. She has a rich background in music education and orchestral conducting, having served as the Director of Orchestras for Newark City Schools from 2006 to 2010. Under her leadership, the Newark High School Sinfonia achieved notable recognition, including being a first runner-up for the National Orchestra Cup at Lincoln Center, which garnered media attention and an invitation to perform at the White House.12
Her extensive teaching career includes 15 years as Director of Orchestras for the Bexley City School District, where her orchestras also received national accolades and performed at prestigious venues, including the White House and international festivals. In addition to her role at the Newark-Granville Youth Symphony, Larson is involved with the Denison University Suzuki Program as a violin, viola, and chamber music instructor. She has also contributed to various orchestras and music organizations, serving as a clinician and conductor across Ohio.12
Larson holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and violin performance from Kent State University, with further graduate studies at The Ohio State University and the University of Wisconsin. She is an active performer, having played with several orchestras and notable musicians, including Barry Manilow and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.13
