Dr. Sukumaran Nair, known as Dr. Suku Nair, is a distinguished professional serving as the Director of the AT&T Center for Virtualization at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas. With a rich academic background, he holds the position of University Distinguished Professor at the Lyle School of Engineering, where he previously served as the Chair of the Computer Science and Engineering Department from 2008 to 2016. Dr. Nair is credited as the visionary behind the Cyber Security program at SMU, which has earned recognition as the NSA/DHS Center of Excellence in Information Assurance Education and Cyber Defense. His profound expertise spans Virtualization Technologies, Software Centric Telecommunication Networks, Cyber Security, and Trusted AI, with a strong focus on research in high assurance computing and networking. Supported by prestigious institutions and industry giants like NSF, NSA/DHS, NIST, ONR, SPAWAR, and corporations such as Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, and Google, Dr. Nair has made significant contributions to the field through extensive publications and consultancy roles across IT, Telecom, Retail, and Cyber Security sectors. Recognized for his outstanding achievements, he has been honored with various accolades including the Dallas 500 award, CIO/CTO award for Outstanding Tech Advocate, Ford Research Fellowship, IBM faculty award, Distinguished University Citizen award, and University Distinguished Professorship. Dr. Nair's academic journey includes earning his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana in 1988 and 1990, respectively, following a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Kerala, India in 1984.
