    Steven Woloshen is a Montreal-born filmmaker who has established a strong presence in the world of animated and experimental films.

    With a background in Super-8 film, video, and 16mm independent film techniques from Concordia University, Woloshen ventured into camera-less animation in 1982. Since then, he has been known for his innovative use of scratches and lacerations on film to evoke emotional responses.

    After a hiatus in the film industry, Woloshen returned to filmmaking in 1996 and has since been steadily creating animated works that have garnered international recognition.     In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, Woloshen has been actively involved in various film-related roles, such as teaching at universities, serving as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and working in production and conservation within the film industry.

    His recent retrospective screening at Saw Video Gallery and inclusion in the anthology 'The Sharpest Point: Animation at the End of Cinema' further demonstrate his influence and standing in the world of animation.

    Woloshen's unique focus on 35mm CinemaScope sets him apart in the independent film scene, showcasing his ability to produce high-quality work with limited resources.
