Associate Professor at University of Sydney
Steven Wise is an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and a background in materials engineering. He specializes in developing platform biomaterials for cardiovascular applications, like stents and synthetic vascular grafts.
His research involves assessing blood compatibility, interactions with endothelial and smooth muscle cells, and evaluating new materials and vascular devices using various pre-clinical models. He focuses on understanding the role of inflammation in host reactions to implanted materials and creating bioactive surfaces to modulate responses.
Steven has received notable funding, including NHMRC and ARC grants, for projects that aim to improve patient lives with innovative implants. His work on developing synthetic conduits for arterial revascularization was recognized with the NHMRC Marshall and Warren award in 2018.
Aside from his current role at the University of Sydney, Steven Wise has held positions at The Heart Research Institute (HRI) as a Senior Postdoctoral Scientist and Unit Leader of the Applied Materials Group. He has also served as a Clinical Senior Lecturer and Director at Impact Factor Publishing Pty Ltd.
