Steve Weinberg

Steve Weinberg is an NFL Certified Contract Advisor and licensed attorney based in Dallas, Texas. He has been a certified NFL agent since 1982 and has over four decades of experience in sports law and contract negotiation.1

Weinberg's educational background includes:

• Doctor of Law (JD) from SMU School of Law, specializing in Sports Law and Legal Research (1978-1980)

As an NFL agent, Weinberg has represented high-profile athletes, including Washington Redskins running back Stephen Davis, for whom he negotiated a nine-year, $135,450,000 contract in 2000.2 However, his career has not been without controversy. In 2001, Weinberg was involved in a legal dispute with fellow agent Howard Silber over a joint venture agreement.2 Later, in 2006, he filed a lawsuit against the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) for $36,750,000 in damages, claiming they illegally revoked his certification.4

Weinberg has been known for his outspoken criticism of the NFLPA, including public statements about the 1987 Players' Strike, the 1993 institution of a salary cap, and the failure to secure fully guaranteed contracts for players.3 This advocacy for his clients reportedly created tensions with the NFLPA, leading to disciplinary actions against him.3
