Steve Lippman
ESG Engagement Director, Microsoft
Steve Lippman is the ESG Engagement Director in the Office of the Corporate Secretary at Microsoft, a position he has held since May 2018. He is the first individual to serve in this role, where he oversees all shareholder engagement activities related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. His responsibilities include collaborating with the Investor Relations team to integrate ESG topics into investor communications and engaging with institutional investors to discuss Microsoft's ESG policies and performance.1
Prior to this role, Lippman served as the Director of Corporate Responsibility at Microsoft since September 2010, where he was instrumental in shaping the company's corporate responsibility strategies and enhancing transparency and stakeholder engagement. He has also held the position of Senior Program Manager for Environmental Sustainability, where he developed Microsoft's first corporate environmental policies and public statements on climate change.1
Lippman has a strong background in socially responsible investing, having worked as the Vice President of Social Research & Advocacy at Trillium Asset Management, where he co-directed ESG research and negotiated sustainability agreements with major corporations. His earlier experience includes establishing the Environmental Program at Business for Social Responsibility, where he led various consulting projects focused on sustainable practices.1
He holds a Master of Science in Environmental Policy from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University.1
