Steve Francis is the Project Director for Terraso at Tech Matters, a nonprofit organization focused on leveraging technology for social change. He has a diverse background with over 30 years of experience in various roles, including software engineering and executive leadership. His career has spanned from being a hands-on engineer to serving as a CEO of a public company.

At Tech Matters, Francis has been instrumental in the development of Terraso, an open-source platform designed to empower local leaders in addressing climate change and sustainability challenges. He emphasizes the importance of community ownership of data collected for local projects, advocating against "data colonialism" and ensuring that the benefits of data collection are returned to the communities involved. Francis joined Tech Matters in late 2019 after consulting on high-impact social good projects for three years.123
