Steve Arms

Steve Arms is a highly accomplished individual with a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Vermont, earned in 1983.

He is widely recognized as the founder and former President & CEO of MicroStrain, Inc., a reputable Vermont-based manufacturing company specializing in micro-displacement sensors, miniaturized inertial sensors, and wireless sensing systems designed for monitoring structural loads and strains.

Mr. Arms holds an impressive record of 58 US patents, has authored over 25 journal articles, and contributed to more than 50 abstracts in the fields of advanced instrumentation, wireless sensing, and energy harvesting.

After his tenure at MicroStrain, Mr. Arms ventured into new opportunities by establishing Swarms Ventures, LLC in 2013, dedicated to investing in innovative business prospects.

Currently, Mr. Arms is actively involved with www.beta.team, an electric eVTOL company, operating part-time at KBTV airport. Additionally, he acts as a strategic advisor for www.Biocogniv.com, an AI company specializing in medical diagnostics, both situated in Burlington, Vermont.

His commitment to the community is evident through his board positions at autoVENT.org, Burlington's ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center, and his role in UVM's SPARK program, focusing on commercializing innovative ideas and technologies from the University.

Known for his expertise in next-generation smart sensors for medical, physical therapy, and sports training, as well as proficiency in marketing and communications, Mr. Arms is currently directing his efforts towards sensing applications in aircraft and emergency ventilation machines.

Throughout his career, he has collaborated with engineering teams on various projects, including automatic bag vent machines (ABVMs), quad-redundant inceptors for eVTOL aircraft, energy harvesting wireless sensing networks, and cloud-based data management for smart machines, structures, and medical devices.
