Stephen Regenold is a journalist, entrepreneur, and outdoor enthusiast known for founding GearJunkie, a popular outdoor and adventure blog. With a background in journalism, Regenold started his career with a 'zine at the University of Minnesota before working for tech-business magazines. He launched GearJunkie.com in 2006, covering outdoor and adventure industries, and contributed to the New York Times as an adventure-travel writer.
Regenold has an extensive history of exploring the outdoors, participating in activities like expeditions, climbs, marathons, and ultra-endurance events such as the Ironman and various races. He has raced across Chile's Patagonian wilderness, trekked Mount Everest, climbed Iceland's highest volcano, and won unique events like the Brompton U.S. Championships on a fold-up British bike.
After years of adventure and journalistic endeavors, Regenold expanded GearJunkie to a team of 20 with offices in Denver and Minneapolis. In April 2020, GearJunkie was acquired by Lola Digital Media, and Regenold currently serves as the Vice President of Strategy, overseeing business development, strategy, and M&A for the company's AllGear network of sites. He is also a coach for his children's school's NICA mountain bike team and resides in Minneapolis with his wife and five children.
