Originally from the Finger Lakes region of New York, Stephen's passion for travel and the natural world led him to explore the Adirondack Mountains and later settle in the Pacific Northwest.
As a collaborative leader, Stephen has a proven track record of building and leading successful teams, networks, and initiatives geared towards promoting environmental awareness and appreciation.
His professional journey includes roles such as Outdoor Recreation Manager at Travel Oregon, Outdoor Programs & Outreach Manager at REI, and Stewardship Director at the Forest Park Conservancy.
Stephen's commitment to education is evident through his past roles as Natural Science Faculty at the High Mountain Institute and Environmental Educator at the North Cascades Institute.
Currently, Stephen is the Founder and Owner of Ptarmigan Collective, where he continues to drive sustainable and community-focused initiatives in the environmental and outdoor sectors.
Outside of work, Stephen enjoys activities like hiking, trail running, backcountry skiing, and exploring new landscapes and communities with his family and beloved chocolate lab, Tilly Jane.
